Sump Pumps and Winter.

It’s not a great combination.  There are certain times of year in which you need to keep a close eye on all the installations and appliances in your home that use water, particularly during the dead of winter when it is unbearably cold.  Sump pumps are most often used in areas where there is high water.

Here are some tips to keep your sump pump running this time of year –

1.  Have the water running slightly to keep it from freezing.
2.  Put your sump pump on a slight slope.
3.  Insulate the discharge section.
4.  Increase the distance between the pump and the waste water area.

All of these things will help you get through another Central Illinois winter.  One thing’s for sure, when your sump pump needs to be repaired or replaced there is one man to call.  That’s Dave Bailey of Dave Bailey Plumbing.  He and his crew handle plumbing mishaps in Morton and the surrounding area.  Just call (309) 265-6788.

Into Each Life a Little Rain Must Fall.

Anyone who has lived in Central Illinois for any length of time knows that mid-summer can be a wet and wild time weather-wise.  July is often a particularly rainy time with frequent thunderstorms dotting the calendar.  This is the time of year when your sump pump needs to be in tip-top condition and ready for potential flooding.

We generally install sump pumps around the lowest area of your basement.  This prevents flooding and keeps the lower part of your home nice and dry.  Now, if it is after the fact, and your basement has been flooded you need a real plumbing pro to fix it.  We hope you don’t reach that point!

Whether or not your current sump pump is broken, or you need a brand new one, we are the answer!  Call us at Dave Bailey Plumbing for not just your sump pump needs, but ALL of your plumbing problems be they emergencies or not.  We are Dave Bailey Plumbing serving Morton, East Peoria, Pekin, and the surrounding area.  Give us a call at (309) 265-6788.

Should Every Home have a Sump Pump?

We seem to pride ourselves in the best washer/dryer combo that we can afford.  We have a big full-efficiency refrigerator, our dishwasher is second to none.  How much attention to home owners in Central Illinois pay to their sump pump.  Because it is “out of sight, out of mind” in the bowels of your basement it does not get the same attention.

It may not be terribly glamorous, but boy does it afford us peace of mind!  Rain and snow saturate the ground around and below your home's foundation. Hydrostatic pressure causes a build-up against the concrete walls and will either cause cracks or overwork your drainage system.  The result can be disastrous.

This small pump installed in the lowest part of a basement keeps the space under the building dry and prevents flooding.  Don’t ignore the importance of this appliance!  In Morton, East Peoria, Pekin and the surrounding area call Dave Bailey he is Central Illinois’ premier sump pump installation and repair professional.  Call Dave Bailey Plumbing at (309) 265-6788.

Sump Pumps and Winter.

Sump pumps are most often used in areas where there is high water. Basements often have problems with dampness, mold, or flooding issues. The sump pump works to eject water from your home to prevent these problems.  This time of year, you need to keep a particularly close eye on your sump pump to watch for freezing.

Here are some tips to ensure that your sump pump keeps on pumping-

1.  Keep the water flowing.  It freezes because it is not moving.
2.  Don’t let the water meet the freezing air.  Water should not sit in hoses.
3.  Give the pump a slight slope.  Let gravity do its job.
4.  Wrap up your discharge line and intake section.
5.  Increase the distance between the pump and the waste water area.

All of these are tips that may help you.  In the long run, with age and weather you may need a professional.  In East Peoria, Pekin, and Morton that man is Dave Bailey.  He and his team from Dave Bailey Plumbing Inc. will come to your home or office and assess the situation.  Give them a call at (309) 265-6788 and have a warm, DRY 2018!

Sump Pump 101.

The kids will not be taking a course like this in school, but you should know the basics if you are a home owner in the Morton, IL area.  So, what is a sump pump?  It is a small pump installed in the lowest part of a basement or crawlspace of your home. Its job is to help keep the area under the building dry and to prevent it from flooding.

They are usually installed in specially constructed areas called “sump pits”.  Water then flows into the sump pit through drains or by natural water migration through the soil.  Then it is all about gravity…water IN the pit-water OUT of the pit away from your home.  I see your eyes rolling about now.

You may be thinking, I don’t need to know the technology, but whom do I call if something goes wrong with my sump pump?  Well, that part is simple!  The answer for years in the Morton, East Peoria, and Pekin area is always Dave Bailey Plumbing Inc.  Dave provides the solution and stops the flooding.  Call him today at (309) 265-6788.
