Keep an Eye on Your Toilet.

Well, there is something that we would rather not do, but now and then you will notice a lack of water in the bowl.  When that happens remove the tank cover and check the water level after the fill valve has shut off. It should be about one inch below the opening of the overflow tube. If it is lower than that, there may not be enough water in the tank to fill the bowl after a flush. Correct this by adjusting the float.

A low water level in toilets may not seem like a big deal, but it can cause real problems.  You may also turn off the water supply to the toilet.  Rotate the oblong knob clockwise then flush the toilet.  After a flush, the tank will not refill.  At this point, you can get in there and make repairs.  By the way, look at the float and valve and see what kind of condition they are in.

These are some remedial tips for a DIY solution in fixing your home or office toilet(s).  When a real emergency occurs, it is comforting to know that you are just a phone call away from a great full-service plumber serving Morton, East Peoria, and Pekin.  That is Dave Bailey Plumbing Inc.  Don’t hesitate to call Dave and his team at (309) 265-6788.
