That sounds ominous, doesn’t it? We tend to see more gas leaks in the winter
because of the extensive freezing and thawing of the ground in Central
Illinois. It is also more difficult to
excavate our home’s pipes when the area around them is frozen and, the obvious,
it is harder to work when the weather is harsh.
The danger occurs when natural gas leaks because it is
flammable, which means that if there's a flame or even a spark in the area of a
leak, it could cause a fire or explosion.
A gas leak can happen if a gas pipe is damaged, like if someone is
digging a hole and accidentally breaks an underground gas line.
